 Political Views/Statement:

Ahnii,

I am a part of the Ojibwe Nation.  I continue to learn our culture. I am witness to the daily politics within and around our First Nations at all levels of Government. As First Nations we have a long road to travel. I really just wanted to put a quick few points down for any readers:

Artificial Borders As nations, we are restricted by the Treaty/Provincial/National borders. We constantly work within these mind frames.
Nations will there ever be a time when we have Nation leaders?
Manufactured Consent an interesting political strategy, look it up.
Traditional forms of Government Hereditary systems/long houses womens/men and youth roles within thereto. How can we parallel this to the current INAC system
The department of Indian and Northern Affairs What was this organization derived from? could they be considered a form of goverment by means of their overall power over first nations
Jurisdiction Gaming/education/hunting/fishing/justice/natural resources
Economic Independence restricted by jursidiction (how can move forward even on our own lands when we are restricted
Treaties  I have read my treaty and I don't recall seeing we have extinguished our right as Nations to enter into a treaty nor does it state the treaties veto/abolish any former treaties made (ojibwe/haudenesaune treaty of 1701)

There is much to learn about our relationship with the government. There is much to learn of what we lost and what we can regain/relearn.  There is much progress to be made. Being involved I have been privy to the growth of our people and our youth in particular. We are getting stronger and it is amazing.

Youth Initiatives:

I have been in the position of the primary Independent First Nations youth Representative for just over a year now. In this time I have also become a member of the OFNYPC and AFNNYC. This has provided me with the opportunity to work along side other dynamic, motivated and dedicated young leaders from First Nations communities, representing their respective area's from all across Canada. I am also a member on numerous portfolio's including special initiative housing, economic development, fundraising, child welfare and international affairs.I have also had the opportunity to participate in a number of conferences and forums in order to address and voice the concerns of the First Nations youth that I represent.
